The Ancient Art of Charcoal Burning

Join us to see how we are helping to revive the ancient craft of turning wood to charcoal right here at the Arboretum.  We can promise dirt, heat, excitement, and your very own bag of Arboretum charcoal to take home at the end of the course.

Participants can stay as long as their stamina lasts, with a chance to come back a few days later to see the product of their work being unloaded.

Guided Bat Walk

Join Karl Lofthouse for an evening guided walk through our diverse collection of plants and habitats.  The route will pass by trees with known bat roosts, the bluebell wood, lime wood and through the wildflower meadow.  The meadow's diverse collection of herb species has given exciting glimpses of Britain's largest bat (the Noctule) in past years, feeding on insects over the attractive ox-eye daisies.  Bring your own detectors if you have them or there will be a limited number available to borrow for the walk.

Quest at the Arboretum

Try out our geo-caching treasure hunt.  We have 2 different trails available with exciting activities and adventure guaranteed.

Free activity but £40 deposit required for GPS unit.

In association with the Institute of Physics.

The Taming of the Shrew

Folksy Theatre bring Shakespeare to the Arboretum.

Following last years successful national tour of ’Romeo & Juliet’, Folksy Theatre are thrilled to be back this year, performing Shakespeare's wonderful comedy 'The Taming Of The Shrew’ at the beautiful Arboretum, on Friday 8th & Saturday 9th August at 7pm.

Baptista has declared that no one may court his youngest daughter Bianca until first her older sister, the ill-tempered Katherine, is married. Petruchio, a brash young man from Verona, agrees to marry Katherine - but can he tame her?

Set in the rockin' 50's, it's The Shrew as you’ve never seen it before. This production is filled with live music, large characters and guarantees to have audiences of young and old alike, laughing along.

Bring along your picnics, blankets, folding chairs and friends and family to enjoy this wonderful open-air production.

Tickets go on sale online on 1st April.
