Take part in our geo-caching treasure hunt.  We have 2 different trails available with exciting activities and adventure guaranteed.

Free activity but £40 deposit required for GPS unit.

Family Friendly Afternoon

Lovely Leaves

Try out our leafy craft activities and follow our trail to discover weird and wonderful leaves around the Arboretum.

BBOWT will also join us for the afternoon with extra activities.

The Lovely Leaves trail will be available until Monday 11th August.

The Taming of the Shrew

Folksy Theatre bring Shakespeare to the Arboretum.

Following last years successful national tour of ’Romeo & Juliet’, Folksy Theatre are thrilled to be back this year, performing Shakespeare's wonderful comedy 'The Taming Of The Shrew’ at the beautiful Arboretum, on Friday 8th & Saturday 9th August at 7pm.

Baptista has declared that no one may court his youngest daughter Bianca until first her older sister, the ill-tempered Katherine, is married. Petruchio, a brash young man from Verona, agrees to marry Katherine - but can he tame her?

Set in the rockin' 50's, it's The Shrew as you’ve never seen it before. This production is filled with live music, large characters and guarantees to have audiences of young and old alike, laughing along.

Bring along your picnics, blankets, folding chairs and friends and family to enjoy this wonderful open-air production.

Explore the huge variety of bark on the Arboretum trees by following our Beautiful Bark trail and join in our bark-themed crafts.

Fabulous Flowers

Find out about the flowers that grow at the Arboretum throughout the year on our Fabulous Flowers trail and join in our flower craft fun.

RSPB will also join us for the afternoon with extra activities.

The Fabulous Flowers trail will be available until Monday 25th August.

Splendid Seeds

Saunter along our Splendid Seeds trail to discover the amazing range of seeds that are at the Arboretum through the year and try out our "seed-themed" activities.

RSPB will also join us for the afternoon with extra activities.

The Splendid Seeds trail will be available until Monday 1st September.

 

Thursday 28th August

7.30pm to 9pm

Guided Bat Walk with Karl Lofthouse

Join expert Karl Lofthouse for an evening guided walk through our diverse collection of plants and habitats.  The route will pass by trees with known bat roosts, the bluebell wood, lime wood and through the meadow.  The meadow's diverse collection of herb species has given exciting glimpses of Britain's largest bat (the Noctule) in past years.  Bring your own detectors if your have them or there will be a limited number to borrow for the walk.  Insect repellent is recommended.

The New Sylva: A guided walk with Gabriel Hemery

Join the author of The New Sylva on a guided walk around the Sylva Trail at Harcourt Arboretum.  Learn more about what inspirerd him to rewrite Evelyn's landmark book of 1664, what trees have meant to us over the centuries, and the future of our forests.  Gabriel is a chartered forester and the Chief Executive of the Sylva Foundation.

Saturday 27th September

10am to 4pm

The New Sylva: Drawing trees with Sarah Simblet

This workshop explores the magnificent collection of trees at Harcourt Arboretum and offers tuition in how to draw a tree using pencil, pen and ink.  Suitable for children and adults, beginners and more experienced artists.  Sarah will explain approaches to drawing structure, form and proportion, how to use ink, and how to capture the diverse characters of autumnal trees.  Bring along your own sketchbook but other drawing materials will be provided.  Sarah is a graphic artist, broadcaster and writer, who teaches at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Arts in Oxford.
